For most of my life I’ve been a staunch supporter and probably even an honorary member of the Beige is Bland club. But having just swapped a Victorian terrace in the city for a Georgian country house, the style I loved in our East London life doesn’t necessarily translate in an historic home with roughhewn oak beams and ombre sunsets in giant Suffolk skies.
My old go-to neutral, a soft pure white, feels a little too clean for muddy boots and gravel drives. So I’ve been pondering ways to nail these earthier neutral schemes without a result that’s too safe or soulless.
Almost as soon as we found out we were expecting, nursery design ideas started whirling around in my head. Because really, what could be more fun than designing a baby’s room.
I knew I wanted it to be colourful and fresh, and as I’m still on a buy-less-stuff mission, I wanted to make do with some things we already had kicking around the house.
I’ve always been a light sleeper at the best of times and a solid night’s sleep is the first thing to go out the proverbial bedroom window when life gets a little stressful. So with the impending arrival of a tiny new human, most of my thoughts have moved into the ‘will I ever sleep again?’ realm.
Perfect timing then to be teaming up with premium bed linen aficionados Tielle Love Luxury who are celebrating their 5th birthday this month. I’ll be reviewing a set of their beautiful luxe bedding, sharing my plans for creating the ultimate haven of baby-ready bedroom calm, and getting the inside scoop from Tielle founder Joe Molloy on what the world’s best hotels look for in bed linen
I’ve teamed up with Artfinder to share four distinct looks for using mustard in any room of your home - four perfect pairings of my top mustard-y art picks from their online marketplace alongside some killer furniture pieces and home accessories. Mostly high street but with a few high end head-turners too.
I promised a while back to write a post about my experience of leaving a corporate career in the City to set up my own business and what I learned along the way. It’s probably not the journey you’re expecting and it hasn’t been easy to write. Because the truth is: anxiety made me do it.
This Christmas I’m trying to be a more conscious consumer - shopping locally, supporting independents and choosing sustainable gifts that are designed to last. A round up of some of the amazing artists, makers and small businesses who call my new county home, this is buy well, buy once, Suffolk-style.
